Tropical Oasis

Bring a taste of the tropics to your pool area with lush, exotic landscaping. Consider planting palm trees, banana plants, and colorful flowering shrubs to create a vibrant and inviting atmosphere. Incorporate natural stone pathways, water features, and strategically placed boulders to add texture and interest.

To complete the tropical vibe, use outdoor lighting to create a warm and inviting ambiance for evening poolside gatherings.

Zen Garden

If you prefer a tranquil and serene poolside experience, a Zen-inspired garden may be the perfect choice. Create a minimalist landscape by incorporating elements such as smooth pebbles, ornamental grasses, and bamboo.

Integrate a small water feature like a tranquil fountain or a reflective pool to enhance the sense of calm. Add comfortable seating areas and strategically placed meditation spots for a truly serene poolside oasis.

Mediterranean Retreat

Transport yourself to the charming coastal towns of the Mediterranean with a poolside landscape that evokes a sense of elegance and relaxation. Use terracotta pots filled with vibrant flowers and aromatic herbs like lavender, rosemary, and thyme. Incorporate a pergola draped with flowering vines for a touch of romance and shade.

To add a Mediterranean flair, include features such as a tiled mosaic mural, a decorative fountain, or a clay pottery collection.

Desert Escape

If you live in a dry climate or simply love the beauty of arid landscapes, consider creating a desert-inspired poolside paradise. Opt for drought-tolerant plants such as succulents, cacti, and ornamental grasses.

Use sand or gravel as ground cover and accentuate the natural beauty of rocks and boulders. To create a cozy atmosphere, consider adding a fire pit or an outdoor fireplace surrounded by comfortable seating for cool desert evenings.

Contemporary Chic

For those who appreciate a sleek and modern aesthetic, a contemporary poolside design can provide a stunning visual impact. Embrace clean lines, geometric shapes, and minimalist plantings. Incorporate materials like glass, metal, and concrete to create a polished and sophisticated look.

Use lighting to highlight specific features and create a dramatic atmosphere after sunset. Incorporating a water wall or a row of sleek water jets can add an extra touch of elegance.

Your Poolside Paradise

Your poolside retreat deserves a landscaping design that complements its beauty and enhances your overall outdoor experience. By embracing these unique landscaping ideas, you can transform your residential property into a haven of relaxation, entertainment, and natural beauty. Whether you prefer a tropical paradise, a tranquil Zen garden, a Mediterranean escape, a desert oasis, or a contemporary chic design, there are endless possibilities to create a poolside landscape that perfectly suits your personal taste.

If you realized this summer that your pool could use a little more pizazz, we want to share some of our favorite ideas for landscaping around a pool.

After all, a pool is such a fun backyard feature, but it can also overwhelm certain areas. You want your pool to fit seamlessly into the rest of your landscaping and tell the same aesthetic story as the rest of your property.

If you’re feeling like your pool, while enjoyable, has become a bit of an eyesore, here are a few ideas to try.

Water Features

You might be thinking, “Wait a second; I thought my pool was a water feature.” It is! But one way you can make your pool feel more at peace with the rest of your landscaping is to incorporate other water features.

We love having fountains or waterfalls that feed into the pool. Not only does this add an extra aesthetic element to the area it also adds a lot of fun! Who doesn’t love some built-in fun?

This pool is an excellent example of what we mean. The fountains on the side provide an extra element of play for those enjoying the pool. The waterfall in the back also adds the beautiful sound of running water that makes a backyard extra relaxing.

Seating Areas

While some guests will be ready to dive right into the pool, others will want to gather around the pool. It’s helpful to provide some extra seating around your pool area and even some spots where people can enjoy their snacks.

Keep in mind that your seating areas should be waterproof! Plenty of people fresh out of the pool will want to sit down too. That means incorporating furniture that dries quickly or built-in cement benches. It has to be poolside ready and comfortable enough for those who aren’t using the pool to still enjoy an afternoon outside.

Check out this layout we did for an apartment complex pool. It provides an excellent spot for dining and chatting next to the pool with shade and a separate area with a firepit for those evening hangouts.

Plants

One way you can make your pool feel more connected to the rest of your landscaping is to incorporate some greenery around the pool.

This particular yard had a very romantic style. A pool can look too modern in a yard like that. We incorporated some antique-style planters with pink flowers around the pool. This lets the pool feel more connected to the style of the rest of the yard.

You can also use greenery to add some privacy to your pool if you don’t want the neighbors intervening in your next pool party.

Incorporating a pool in your landscaping?

Whether you’ve got a pool already or want to add one, we’re happy to work with you to make adjustments to your landscaping, so it fits your vision, usage, and aesthetic.

Looking to add a water feature to your yard or commercial property? It can be so much fun to incorporate some water for a peaceful feel or to make your landscape feel more connected to the natural environment.

Here are a few of our favorite ways to incorporate a water feature into your property.

Waterfalls

If the sound of running water is really what you’re looking for, adding a waterfall makes a huge impact. You’ll have the calming noise to help make your area feel like an oasis from the busy hustle and bustle of the rest of the world.

There are a lot of ways you can incorporate a waterfall into your landscaping. You’ll want to look at how much space is available and think through where you want the waterfall to be.

If there are some areas where people congregate for conversation, you might want the waterfall to be slightly further away so that everyone can be heard clearly.

We particularly love this double waterfall feature that we did for a property. It really feels like a part of the natural landscape that has just been elevated slightly in style.

Pond or Stream

If you want a water feature that doesn’t require extra elevation, you might want to consider adding in a pond or a stream.

You’ll still get to enjoy the stillness of the water and can even incorporate koi fish to really add a conversation piece to your backyard.

The nice thing about a pond is that it’s a bit quieter than a waterfall, so you can add it next to your patio or where people gather without worrying about too much noise.

We worked on this water feature that came right off the patio. You can see there’s a place for people to sit around a fire and really enjoy being next to the water.

It’s one easy way you can bring the serenity of nature closer to your own home.

Fountains

If you don’t have tons of space or you want something that’s semi-permanent, a fountain is a great option. You might be thinking of the traditional fountain with a large basin and water shooting out the top, but that’s not necessarily what we mean.

You can incorporate fountains that serve as bird baths or that match a more modern aesthetic. Take, for instance, this ceramic vessel that we used as a water feature. It’s not as intrusive as other water features but still gives you that extra element in your yard.

With something like this, you’ll still be able to hear the water moving and perhaps give the birds a great place to perch, but it’s not overwhelming the landscape either.

Statement Pieces

You can also use a water feature as a statement piece on your property. That might mean having it centered or up toward the entrance so that everyone can see. It gives a more elevated aesthetic to your property and can even provide a place for people to sit and gather together.

Check out this double-sided fountain that we worked on for some inspiration.

Interested in your own water feature?

If you think a water feature might be just what your property needs, let’s connect. We’d be happy to provide you with even more inspiration and chat through some options for your needs.
