A great backyard is one that brings people together. For this project, our team transformed an underutilized outdoor space into a versatile recreation area designed for year-round activity, family gatherings, and low-maintenance enjoyment.

 

The transformation began with extensive site preparation. Our team cleared the existing area and completed the excavation and grading needed to create a level foundation for the new recreation space. To support the newly graded landscape, we constructed a segmental retaining wall using Manorstone Flat Faced retaining wall blocks in Grey, finished with Belgard Melville wall caps. The retaining wall provides both structural support and an attractive architectural feature that complements the finished backyard.

 

With the site prepared, we installed a custom VersaCourt modular multi-sport court, creating a backyard pickleball court alongside dedicated areas for half-court basketball and soccer. The versatile court creates a dedicated space for everything from practicing athletic skills and friendly competition to family games and everyday recreation. The durable modular surface is designed for long-lasting performance while allowing rainwater to drain efficiently, making it an excellent choice for year-round outdoor use in the Pacific Northwest.

 

To complete the backyard, we installed a large synthetic turf area adjacent to the sport court. The artificial grass creates additional usable space for relaxing, entertaining, practicing, or play while maintaining a lush green appearance without the need for mowing, watering, or ongoing lawn maintenance.

From grading and retaining wall construction to the VersaCourt installation and synthetic turf, every element of this project was carefully integrated to create a backyard that’s both functional and visually appealing. The finished space encourages an active lifestyle while serving as a beautiful extension of the home’s outdoor living area.
